** DO NOT UPDATE TO THIS VERSION! UGLY BETA! **
There are some changes to the app (besides bug fixes) since the previous update, and the most obvious change is not good, in my opinion. You can now mark records as “favorites,” which I have no issue with even though it’s a feature I’m unlikely to make much use of.
However, now the records view is littered with the “favorite” star icons just begging you to toggle them with a tap that was intended to, say, swipe-select the record for editing or quick-scrub down the alphabetical index on the right side of the display.
This position for the “favorite” stars visually clutters the display and adds frustration due to the resultant congestion of tap-targets. In addition, marking a record as a “favorite” becomes the only modification that can be performed! Gone is the “swipe-to-edit” pattern! How am I supposed to edit a record on my iOS device now? DUMB!
Even if the “swipe-to-edit” capability were still present, I suggest moving the “favorite” stars to the left side of the display, where they won’t interfere with other right-side touch targets.
In addition, some lingering annoyances that could easily (IMO) be dealt with have not been:
1. Sorting records only persists until the next time the app starts. So everything always reverts to alphabetical sort at startup. Since record types have nice icons to serve as visual cues, sorting options should persist between launches.
2. The desktop app (which is required if you opt for local-only syncing) doesn’t have a hotkey shortcut for the “mask/unmask” operation. The previous versions of the desktop app did have this hotkey as ⌘M, which (of course) is the macOS “minimize” command. Please bring back the “mask/unmask" keyboard action as (say) ⌥⌘M, it’s really useful and a pain to not have it.
3. The desktop app makes the record column (middle column) much too wide. This can be reduced by the user but does not persist upon restarting the app. Ugly and annoying.
4. The desktop app defaults to creating a new record in a different way than previous versions, and the new way is dumb and annoying. Previously, using ⌘N to create a new record defaulted to a "web login" type, which is (for me) the most commonly used record. Now it defaults to “combination,” as in combination locks. Not much used by me, and probably not much used by most other people, either. This is a new bug and a most unwelcome one. The desktop app has taken a few steps backward, in my opinion.
So, there’s some MAJOR work to do to return this app to it’s previous level of functionality and reliability (back in the old ugly yellow lock icon days). I think SplashData, Inc. are losing the plot and just goofing around to look busy. Fortunately I can revert to the prior version which does what I need it to do.
